The Power Of "Positive" Negligence

Having seen the effects of the slothfulness on every hand, felt the wrath and endured the ostracization of the smiling do-nothings that overpopulate our simpering, mealy-mouthed society this week past, Galt-in-Da-Box dares to pose a question:
Ever wonder just what the hell it's going to take to wake some people up? Those who are the subject here are the bleating, milk-toast lot who feeeeeel it's not only proper, but their duty to walk by, and bury their heads in the sand. This would include a lot of nominal "Christians", that is, denominational religionists who patronize and compromise by whimpering "You really should try to think more positively"; just click your heels together and say "there's no place like home" and everything will be hunky-dory. Since nothing is ever accomplished by them that's afraid to rock the boat (no matter how they disguise their cowardice) I'm absolutely "positive" that won't change anything.
Proponents of this philosophy fail to realize Jesus Christ didn't go around patting everyone on the back. Often he did it a bit lower and a lot harder, because (for example) to a liar, thief or murderer, it's "positive" to have their own way and "negative" if they do not: The terms are entirely relative and arbitrary, which is why they don't appear in Scripture, as it is designed to guide right believing, show us where we are believing wrongly and get us back to right believing. Religion and psychology, not so much: It's the tendency of the former to use the latter to keep the pews and clerical pockets full, hence the sugar-coated, ultra-political "positive" rationalization with which we are surrounded.
Similar are those involved in politics who just accept whatever is spoon-fed them and blindly follow without so much as a bleat, let alone a protest. America is being neglected to death by these alleged "citizens", and I use the term in its loosest possible non-sense. You geniuses who believe "it'll just work itself out" are sheep. Those rocket-scientists and brain-surgeons who similarly assume "it's not your place" or "what would the" lily-white, aryodite, OMFR, look-gooder "Joneses think" are DEAD asleep. Worst of all, party hacks and mongers who blindly believe your major contribution toward a more perfect union is over when you've voted some shyster with your party's initial behind his name into Congress or the Presidency, and blitheringly "AMEN!"ing or salaaming whatever he or she says are dumber than a case of pet rocks. God knows the left has had a corner on the kool-aid-drinker market for decades, but you GOPhers who call yourselves "conservative" while demanding more socialism from the ruin-the-Republic-ans puzzle and disgust the absolute hell right out of me. Then there's the "you can't fight city hall" cotingent whose gross, staggering ignorance of fairly-recent history - when we not only took on government in the streets and won civil rights, but a host of other battles - is down-right astounding!
I know full well that as time passes and age increases, it's much easier to "wind down", if you will; slack off if you prefer; be a LAFSOB if you insist...but these are not the times in which we can call it a day. We have a public debt that threatens to dwarf our GNP, a Congress that is set to rewrite President Obama's budget into the most pork-laden, nation-destabilizing joke in history, Constitutional individual liberty unguarded, OMFR lining up at the public soup-kitchen and feigning poverty (down to their last hundred-mil, I guess), an open-ended police-action farce in Afghanistan nobody is committed to winning but the Al Qaeda and the Taliban, and a sensationalist, statist media that is far more a lapdog of oppressive massive government, than the watchdog it is supposed to be, while willfully ignorant of why it's fish-wraps are dying! Too few people with too much influence, power and wealth have been the classic ruin of any republic when they are not held in check or to account.
Those G20 summit demonstrators got the right idea, but they're methods are speaking so loudly their message is getting lost...Meanwhile here in America, not a word is heard: Too many think that by giving up their heritage of independent, productive, individualism and becoming subservient proletarian plebes, an ever-expanding socialist-fascist state can be maintained. If you really want to blame someone for the state of the union, knock off your Obama-bashing, go to the nearest mirror and take a good, honest look. In a country that is dependent upon its citizens for direction and leadership, they also are responsible if that nation fails. If you are naive or intellectually challenged enough to assume a better future will arrive for you, pre-packaged and ready-to-eat without your economic and political sweat-equity, you are a sheep, not a citizen. In the 19th Century it was popular to believe hard work would change everything. In the 20th, that idea was subverted with the "everyone owes me a living" rationale. Today it's smart work that is needed more than ever. Sooner or later we're going to have to face the fact that the needy deserve our help, but the lazy must be left behind to the consequences of their error.
As Winston Churchill put it, "All these things must be recovered...All this, and much more, must be repaid!!!"

"The real damage is done by those millions who want to ’survive.’ The honest men who just want to be left in peace. Those who don’t want their little lives disturbed by anything bigger than themselves. Those with no sides and no causes. Those who won’t take measure of their own strength, for fear of antagonizing their own weakness. Those who don’t like to make waves or enemies. Those for whom freedom, honour, truth, and principles are only literature. Those who live small, mate small, die small. It’s the reductionist approach to life: if you keep it small, you’ll keep it under control. If you don’t make any noise, the bogeyman won’t find you. But it’s all an illusion, because they die too, those people who roll up their spirits into tiny little balls so as to be safe. Safe?! From what? Life is always on the edge of death; narrow streets lead to the same place as wide avenues, and a little candle burns itself out just like a flaming torch does. I choose my own way to burn."

Wow, MDS!
That is fantastic. Sounds like Emerson or Russell.
It's always a tiny minority that makes the difference. The majority sit and wait and hope desperately for someone else to lead the charge, or better yet in their minds, do the hard work and dirty jobs for them.
Good is the opposite of evil, but also the comfortable enemy of best!

We need to find the author of that. It certainly is wise.

Patton used to say "Never let the perfect be the enemy of the good." Too many people are waiting for the "perfect" opportunity to do something. The other thing he was noted for saying was "A good plan now is better than a perfect plan later." For better or worse, the Tea Partiers are out there doing something.

By the bye, did you know that during the Revolutionary War, it was only a small minority of the colonists who actively supported the cause? There were quite a number who were Royalists or Revolutionaries, but who did not actively support either side.

Perhaps that will happen again here and we can get our country back.

God help America.
